Chichen Itza, Mexico, one of the Seven Wonders of the World

Temple Chichen Itza is a Mayan archaeological heritage is the most complete and is still well. Mayan sites in Mexico was, on July 7, 2007, was selected as one of the seven wonders of the world’s 100 million people a choice results via email and sms held by the Swiss Foundation. According to the Mayan culture books of Chilam Balam, the temple complex was constructed between the years 502-522 AD. Mayas occupied only during the 200 years, then they move to coastal areas in Campeche. Yet another version says, Chichen Itza was built around 800 years BC.
The name Chichen Itza means any water on the lips of the people in the local Indian language. Chichen Itza developed into a center of Mayan culture and economic governance. Itza is the central point of the complex of other buildings such as the Kukulcan Pyramid, Temple of Chac Mool, and building of Thousand Pillars. In the temple of Chichen Itza, there are two cenotes (natural wells) that made the offerings were put. It is said that the Maya Indians who inhabited the city’s offer jade, ceramics, and humans to be included in the well. Offerings were given when there is drought. Sometimes offerings of young girls to enter alive into the well. The role of the well is so important because there are no rivers Yukatan Peninsula. The only source of water when the drought hit is from the wells.
The temple complex is quite wide and each temple apart from the other. In the middle stands the temple El Castilo which is a palace. Pyramid shape, the roof just blunt. Around the temple complex there is a statue called the Red Jaguar. This is where ceremonies are often held. The victim made up of a leopard, tortoise, chicken, turkey, dog or any animal heart. Even sometimes the victims are human too. One of the largest temples built is Kukulkan. Based on the legendary Mayan god Kukulkan an incarnation of Quetzalcoatl-Headed Snake. Temple of Kukulkan pyramid which has a staircase form, with the terraces. On each side of the rectangular pyramid, there are steps to the summit. At the top there is the entrance to the room the stone crown of King of Kukulkan jaguar, painted red and moss green spots.
